Primary source
The active build uses the West Bengal Census 2011 District Census Handbook village release file stored in the project input directory. It contains 40,218 village records across 18 districts and 341 Sub-District groups.
Fields used
The generator uses administrative names and codes, village name and code, population, households, area, PIN code, nearest statutory town, selected facility indicators and land-use fields where reported.
Processing rules
Names are cleaned for display, numeric codes are padded without changing their source meaning, and existing URL patterns are preserved. District and Sub-District totals are calculated from the loaded village records.
- Missing values are not guessed
- A zero is retained when the source reports zero
- Duplicate village names receive comparison pages
- Map coordinates are not created from administrative names
- Same-tehsil links are not presented as distance-ranked nearby villages
Known source gaps
Gram panchayat names are missing for 40,218 records. Household values are missing for 2,740 records, and PIN codes are missing for 2,740 records. Other fields may also be blank for individual villages.
Verification
Historical codes and figures may differ from current administrative records. Verify formal or current information with Census of India, the Government of West Bengal, district or Sub-District administration, India Post or the relevant department.
